BLACKBERRY (Rubus fruticosus L.)

Work on blackberry breeding began in 1982. As a result, the first blackberry cultivar 'Čačanska bestrna' was created. This variety in many ways surpasses all, so far created, thornless blackberry cultivars in the world, while according to yield and resistance to low temperatures is standard in many breeding centers.


The quality of fruits, as well as its suitability for different types of use, color stability in fruit processing, resistance to low temperatures, shorter harvest period, upright habit and thornless are the main objectives of the breeding program of this fruit.
