Cultivars

In the field of pomology, the Institute has so far evaluated 750 apple cultivars, 370 pear cultivars, 280 plum cultivars, 150 apricot cultivars, 80 sweet cherry cultivars, 60 sour cherry cultivars, 30 hazelnuts, 75 walnut cultivars and selections, 140 strawberries, 45 raspberries, 35 currants, 20 blackberries, 6 blueberries, 11 gooseberries. A number of new, introduced rootstocks have also been studied.

Thirty four cultivars of various fruit species have been developed at the Institute so far and 15 superior hybrids are to be named and released. The newly-bred cultivars and hybrids are well-known and recognized both at home and aborad. Thus, some plum cultivars (it is released 13 plum cultivars) such as Čačanska Rodna, Čačanska Lepotica, Čačanska Najbolja and Valjevka with the exclusive right for propagation, have been included in the assortment of developed European countries. Moreover, owing to its exceptional quality, apple cv Čadel and sour cherry cv Šumadinka have been protected by licence. New blackberry cv Čačanska Bestrna is very atractive, too.
