ČAČANSKA BESTRNA

General characteristics

Cultivar is vigorous. It produces 4−5 strong thornless canes, curved from the middle, with short internodes. Fruiting branches are developing from the base of shoots. It starts vegetation mid-early and flower mid-late. It is high yielding cultivar, with yields over 28 t/ha even in an extensive growing conditions. It is resistant to attack a fungal disease that causes yellow rust of leaves and shoots (Kuehneola uredinis). In many years of trials, very rare damages caused by the influence of low winter temperatures have been reported.

Fruit characteristics

Fruit is very big, shiny black, firm, long and cylindrical. Average weight is 9.3 g, while individual fruits reach 15 g. An average number of druplets is 89. Fruits are very sweet and aromatic.


Ripening time

It ripens mid-early. It has a shorter ripening period so that all fruit ripe well. Easy to peak, and harvesting should be performed in a timely manner.


Mark

It is suitable for fresh consumption, freezing and processing. In comparative trials with blackberries Black Satin, Thornfree and Dirksen Thornless carried out in different environmental conditions, Čačanska bestrna has shown remarkable results in terms of yield and fruit quality, as well as to disease resistance and winter frosts. It is the leading blackberry cultivar in Serbia. In the group of semi-erect thornless blackberry cultivars, Čačanska bestrna reaches about 10% of the total world production.
