JUNSKO ZLATO

General characteristics

The tree is medium vigorous, spreading. The trunk is upright and strong, with smooth bark. The crown is moderately wide, half-pyramidal. The branches are strong, angled at 60°. Short fruiting spurs, mixed bearing wood and short shoots predominate. The branches are grey-brown, with pronounced white lenticels. Generative buds are medium-sized, conical, obtuse and light brown. They are small to medium-sized, pointed and somewhat darker than fruit buds. The leaf is medium-sized, oval. The flower is medium-sized regular, white, open. It is an early flowering cultivar producing abundant pollen with good germination ability. Appropriate pollinators are pears Bella di Giugno, Coloree de Juillet, Coscia Precoce and Butirra Precoce Morettini. It bears fruits very early. A high-yielding cultivar, sometimes bearing fruit parthenocarpically and therefore requiring thinning. Relatively resistant to frosts (winter and late spring frosts), drought and causal agent of pear scab (Venturia pirina Aderh.). It has good affinity with quince.

Fruit characteristics

The fruit is small to medium-sized (60 g on average), truncated, conical farm (58 mm long, 50 mm wide on average). The calyx is small and half-open. The basin is fairly wide, medium deep and slightly ribbed. The fruit skin is thin, smooth and glossy, golden-yellow, with a faint blush on the sunny side. The flesh is yellowish, juicy and melting, sweet-subacid, with a pleasant aroma, without grit. It does not soften at the core. It contains 15.7% soluble solids, 12.2% total sugars and 0.15% total acids. The core is small, ovate, set towards the cavity. The seeds are small, dark brown, ranging from 1 to 8 per fruit depending on fertilization. The stalk is short, moderately thick, dark gray, set in a small, roundish cavity.

Ripening time

It ripens in late June as one of the earliest-ripening pears of our region.

Mark

A very good early cultivar which should be grown in certain proportion in pear plantings owing to its high bearing potential and pronounced parthenocarpy.
