General characteristics
This cultivar is characterized by a medium-sized tree with a rounded crown. The skeletal branches have wide angle. The bark is brown-gray, rough, with numerous light lenticels. The shoots are medium-thick, greenish-brown. The plant forms a large amount of short fruiting wood, and partially bears fruit on shortened one-year shoots. It is characterized by high fruiting potential. The leaves are elliptical in shape, untoothed, and their underside is covered with grayish hairs. The flower is very large, light pink in color, bisexual, with a distinctly prominent pistil whose stigma is flush with numerous, large stamens. Flowering occurs in the middle term, and the flowering phenophase lasts from seven to ten days. The cultivar is self-fertile. It enters the fruiting period early and is characterized by good and regular fruiting. It exhibits moderate resistance to low temperatures and drought. Under natural infection conditions, it shows a medium degree of tolerance to the most important disease-causing agents and pests.

Fruit characteristics
The fruit is medium-sized, with an average weight of about 230 g, round in shape with a slight narrowing in the area of the stalk and an uneven surface. The calyx is distinctly developed and located in a ribbed calyx depression. The stalk is short and thick. The skin is smooth, delicate in texture, yellow, covered with fine hairs. The seed capsule is small, oval-elongated in shape, surrounded by a layer of stone cells and positioned centrally in the fruit. The mesocarp is cream-yellow, firm, medium-dense and fine-grained in structure. The average content of soluble dry matter is about 16%, total sugars 9%, invert sugars 7.6%, sucrose 1.25% and total acids 0.86%. The fruit is suitable for fresh consumption. It can be stored until the end of March without the appearance of darkening of the mesocarp and loss of juiciness.
Ripening time
The fruits ripen in mid-October, at a similar time as Leskovačka.
Mark
Makrena is characterized by early, regular and high yields. The fruits are medium-sized, of good quality and good storage stability. It is recommended for intensive production in quince plantations. The cultivar has a longer growing season and drops leaves late, which requires careful planning of agrotechnical measures, especially fertilization, in order to avoid the extension of vegetative growth of shoots and their potential freezing during the winter period.
