WALNUT (Juglans regia L.)

The Work on walnut selection began in 1950, shortly after the establishment of the Fruit Research Institute. By the seventies, more than twenty types of walnut have been selected. Their main pomological properties were examined and described. The best types were propagated and introduced into production. The first national selections of walnuts (Ibar, Vujan and Ovčar) were obtained in this way and enriched rather modest assortment of walnut at that time.
