General characteristics

The tree is medium vigorous to vigorous, with wide, roundish and spreading crown. The main branches are strong, widely angled (exceeding 60°). It has an approximately equal number of short fruiting spurs, short branches and long slender fruiting branches. The branches are greyish-brown with pronounced light lenticels. Generative buds are large, pointed, conical, whereas vegetative ones are medium sized, pointed, dark grey-brown. The leaf is medium large to large, roundish, serrated. The flower is regular, medium large to large, white and open. It belongs in a group of mid-early flowering cultivars. The pollinators are pears Coloree de Juillet, Coscia Precoce, Butirra Precoce Moretini, etc. It is diploid cultivar, producing abundant pollen of good germination ability. Fruits very early, in the second year upon planting. This cultivar is regular and heavy cropper. Relatively susceptible to frost and drought. It is not particularly susceptible to major pear pests and diseases. It has good affinity with quince.

Fruit characteristics

The fruit is medium large, (130 g on average), smooth, piriform-truncate. Dimensions: length -73 mm, wide - 62 mm with even surface. The basin is shallow and open. The skin is thin, smooth and tender, greenish-yellow, taking on straw-yellow when fully ripe. The flesh is white, juicy and melting, aromatic, sweet-acid. It has 14.2% soluble solids, 10.12% total sugars and 0.16% acids. The core is small, set in the middle of the fruit. The seeds are medium-sized, ovate and dark brown.


Ripening time

It ripens in the third decade of July, together with Butirra Precoce Morettini.


Mark

A high-bearing, good quality cultivar of mid-early ripening time. Due to its thin and tender skin it has low shipping quality. It is recommended for larger scale growing.
