On Wednesday, April 5, the Fruit Research Institute was visited by the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola, His Excellency Alcino dos Prazeres Izata Francisco da Conceição with his associates, the first and second secretaries of the embassy.

The guests were received by the delegation of the Institute: director Dr. Darko Jevremović, head of the Department of Fruit Processing Technology Dr. Branko Popović and head of the Laboratory for Tissue Culture Dr. Tatjana Vujović.
The director of the Institute met the ambassador and his associates. with the history, activities and achievements of the Institute, and the establishment of cooperation between the Institute and scientific research institutions in Angola was also discussed.

The protocol was signed by the President of the Municipality Kosjerić, Žarko Đokić and the Acting Director of the Institute, Dr. Darko Jevremović.

The signed document aims to establish cooperation in the areas in which both parties carry out their activities. Both signatories expressed the desire for cooperation to encourage other entities in the municipality of Kosjerić, such as economic and agricultural ones, to establish and develop good mutual relations with the Fruit Research Institute, with the ultimate goal of improving work and enriching basic activities.

The protocol stipulates that the Fruit Research Institute and the Municipality of Kosjerić jointly implement activities, such as improving fruit production in the Municipality of Kosjerić through the provision of scientific, professional and educational services by the Institute, providing planting material of various species and varieties of fruit of the highest quality and implementation of latest technologies in fruit production.

Dr Darko Jevremović, Senior Research Associate, has been appointed Acting Director of the Fruit Research Institute.

At the session held on December 29, the Managing Board of the Fruit Research Institute unanimously passed a Decision proposing the appointment of Dr. Jevremović as the Acting Director.
After obtaining the consent of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia on the said Decision, the Managing Board of the Institute at a session held on December 31, 2020 appointed Dr. Darko Jevremovic as Acting Director of the Institute for a period of one year.

The current director, Dr. Milan Lukić, left the Fruit Research Institute after many years of service, because he has been appointed as director of the Institute of Medicinal Plants Research "Josif Pančić" in Belgrade.

The monograph SMALL FRUITS - growing technology, protection and processing has been published by the Faculty of Agriculture in Čačak and the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak.

The authors of the monograph are: Dr. Svetislav Petrović, full professor at the Faculty of Agronomy in Čačak and scientific advisor of the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak in retirement, Dr. Tomo Milošević, full professor at the Faculty of Agronomy in Čačak, Dr. Darko Jevremović, senior research associate at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak, Dr. Ivan Glišić, assistant professor at the Faculty of Agronomy in Čačak, and Dr. Nebojša Milošević, senior research associate at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak.

The book consists of 9 chapters: strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, currant, gooseberry, hybrids between black currant and gooseberry, blueberry, protection of berry plantations and basic types of small fruits processing.

On 726 pages, the authors gave a comprehensive overview of all aspects of growing, protection and processing of small fruit species.

On Tuesday, September 8 the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, His Excellency Rashid Hassanpor Baei and his associates visited the Fruit Research Institute.

The guests were welcomed by the delegation of the Institute, Director Dr. Milan Lukić, Assistant Director for Science Dr. Mariana Pešaković, and Head of the Department for Fruit Protection and Certification of Planting Material Dr. Darko Jevremović.
After the meeting at which the representatives of the Institute introduced the guests to the history and activities of the Institute, the possibilities of establishing cooperation of the Institute with scientific research institutions in Iran were discussed.
After the meeting, the guests visited the Laboratory for Tissue Culture and one of the production fields of the Institute.

Institut za voćarstvo, Čačak i Grad Čačak sa zadovolјstvom pozivaju hobiste, penzionere, nezaposlena lica i druge zainteresovane da prisustvuju Seminaru o voćarstvu, koji će se održati 24. septembra 2018. godine u Velikoj sali Instituta za voćarstvo u Čačku, sa početkom u 10 časova.

Seminar se realizuje kao mera podrške sprovođenja polјoprivredne politike na teritoriji grada Čačka. Opšti cilј ovog Seminara je doprinos unapređenju uslova za razvoj voćarstva i povećanju prinosa u voćarskoj proizvodnji uz zaštitu životne sredine i poštovanje održivosti.

Rad Seminara biće organizovan u vidu usmenih saopštenja i praktičnih radionica. Usmena saopštenja će biti sa sledećim naslovima:

1. Značaj i prednosti gajenja jabuke (dr Milan Lukić);
2. Značaj i prednosti gajenja kajsije (dr Nebojša Milošević);
3. Značaj i prednosti gajenja šlјive (dr Ivana Glišić);
4. Značaj i prednosti gajenja trešnje i višnje (dr Sanja Radičević);
5. Značaj i prednosti gajenja oraha (dr Svetlana M. Paunović);

Stipendije Vlade Francuske 2018-2019.

U želji da unapredi saradnju između Francuske i Srbije i da podstakne mobilnost studenata, Francuski institut u Srbiji svake godine dodeljuje stipendije studentima iz Srbije koji žele da nastave školovanje u Francuskoj za nivo master II i doktorate.
Stipendije pokritvaju troškove školarine, života u Francuskoj, kao i socijalnog osiguranja.
Svake godine oko pedeset studenata iskoristi ovu finansijsku podršku Vlade Francuske za studije u nekoj od 3500 visokoškolskih ustanova u Francuskoj.

Konkurs za stipendije 2018-2019. otvoren je do 16. marta 2018.

Studenti mogu da konkurišu za razne programe stipendija:
• master 2-sve oblasti
• master 2-stipendija za bivše maturante Matematičke gimnazije u Beogradu
• doktorat u komentorstvu
• post master program Kopernik
• stipendija za Nacionalnu visoku školu lepih umetnosti (ENSBA).

The winner of the Sixth Festival of the best Serbian plum brandy is the plum brandy of the distillery "Trivulesk" from Leskovac.

The second is Ilija Rodić from Borča (19.04 points), third place is divided by prof. Dr Milan Plazinic from Premeće and two other "Trivulesk" brandies with 19,02, the sixth is Dragi Ivanović from Blace (18,95), seventh Stanimir Minić from Donja Trepča (18,89), eighth and tenth Dušan Miletić from Godačica with brandies that scored 18.88 and 18.85 points, ninth Ilija Rudić (18.86), eleventh Dragomir Nedeljković from Jelovik near Arandjelovac (18.77) and twelfth Dejan Virijević from Rudar near Zvecan (18.73).

Prijave za učešće u postupku javne licitacije dostavljaju se od 13–24. 03. 2017. godine. Prijava se podnosi u pisanoj formi neposredno Institutu radnim danima do 15:30 časova ili poštom na adresu: Institut za voćarstvo, Kralja Petra I 9, 32000 Čačak, sa naznakom „Komisija za prodaju vozila“. Prijava fizičkih lica treba da sadrži: ime i prezime, JMBG, broj lične karte, broj telefona, naznačeni redni broj predmeta licitacije i broj računa za povraćaj depozita. Prijava pravnih lica treba da sadrži: naziv i sedište pravnog lica, PIB, matični broj, potpis ovlašćenog lica overen pečatom, broj telefona, ime i prezime osobe za kontakt, naznačeni redni broj predmeta licitacije i broj računa za povraćaj depozita. Da bi lice učestvovalo u postupku nadmetanja, sa prijavom se obavezno podnosi i kopija uplatnice o uplati depozita. Prijave poslate posle ovog roka smatraće se neblagovremenim. Javna licitacija će se održati 27. 03. 2017. godine sa početkom u 12:00 časova, u sali za sastanke Instituta za voćarstvo, na adresi Kralja Petra I 9, 32000 Čačak. Registracija učesnika je 27. 03. 2017. godine od 11 do 12 časova na mestu gde se održava licitacija. Orden Karađorđeve zvezde prvog stepena dobili su Olimpijski komitet Srbije, Paraolimpijski komitet Srbije i Galerija naivne umetnosti u Kovačici.

Dobitnik Ordena Karađorđeve zvezde drugog stepena je Nemanja Radulović, a Orden Karađorđeve zvezde trećeg stepena dobili su atleičarka Ivana Španović, teniserke Ana Ivanović i Jelena Janković, bivša selektorka ženske košarkaške reprezentacije Marina Maljković.

Sretenjski orden prvog stepena dobili su Srpska akademija nauka i umetnosti, Matica srpska i Somborska preparandija (Pedagoški fakultet u Somboru).

Dobitnici Sretenjskog ordena drugog stepena su Crveni krst Srbije, grad Žozije u Francuskoj, Pedagoški muzej u Beogradu, Arhiv Vojvodine, Zadužbina Ilije Milosavljevića Kolarca i OŠ “Braća Aksić” iz Lipljana.

Sretenjski orden trećeg stepena dobili su Institut za voćarstvo iz Čačka, Institut za međunarodnu politiku i privredu iz Beograda, Dečji kulturni centar Beograd, Institut za biološka istraživanja “Siniša Stanković”, Univerzitet u Beogradu, Atelje 212, BITEF (Beogradski internacionalni teatarski festival), Institut za patologiju Medicinskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, akademik Nikola Koka Janković i Beogradsko dramsko pozorište.

Zlatnu medalju za hrabrost “Miloš Obilić” dobili su Renato Grbić, pukovnik Patrik – Stefan Bario, pukovnik Žak Ogar. Zlatnu medalju za hrabrost “Miloš Obilić” posthumno je dobio pripadnik Ministarstva unutrašnjih poslova Nenad Stojadinović.

By signing the Accession Treaty, Fruit Research Institute has become a member of the BUSINESSMAN FORUM OF ČAČAK. On behalf of the Institute, the agreement was signed by Dr. Milan Lukić, who will be the representative of the Institute in the Association.

FORUM is an independent, non-governmental and non-partial organization founded by six business associations from the city of Čačak, to advocate for the creation of a better business environment for all economic subjects and the creation of feudal consciousness of themselves as the only social class who by their resources and at their own risk performs economic activity.

The key objectives of the Association are:

- Public advocating for the improvement of cooperation between the private, public and civil sector in the field of sustainable development and active participation in public life;
- Representing the interests of members and the improvement of economic conditions;
- Improving institutional environment in the area of sustainable development;

The Assembly of the City of Čačak, at its eighth session held on 9th December, verify the decision to grant The December award of the city of Čačak to high school professor Dragiša Petković, the Fruit Research Institute and the writer Lune Levajac.

In early November, the Commission to mark holidays and awards of the City of Čačak announced a public invitation to companies, institutions and other organizations and agencies, citizen groups and individuals for proposals for the December award of the City of Čačak for 2016.

The award is given for particular emphasis in the economic, scientific, cultural, educational, health, sports and other forms of creativity. The award can get a natural or legal person residing or seat, in the city of Čačak.

The prize will be awarded at the ceremony on the occasion of City day of Čačak, on 18th December. The Day of Čačak is celebrated to commemorate the first written mention of Čačak under that name written in the Dubrovnik archives dated 18th December 1408.

The solemn academy marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak was attended by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Dr. Srdjan Verbić, Slobodan Jolović the mayor of Morava district, the mayor of Čačak Milun Todorović, representatives and presidents of cities and municipalities, professors and researchers from universities and institutes, businessmen and distinguished current and former employees of the Institute. The Academy was held on June 23rd 2016 in the concert hall of the music school "Dr Vojislav Vučković" in Čačak.

Director of the Fruit Research Institute, Dr. Milan Lukić in his address pointed out that the Fruit Research Institute in many ways unique and recognizable institution in our country which built its reputation in the past in the science of fruit growing, not only in Serbia but also in Europe and the World. "The introduction of modern methods of scientific research in the field of horticulture, the creation of 41 varieties of continental fruit species, continuous training of personnel, the introduction of modern technologies of planting material production, intensification of cooperation with individuals and legal entities from the area of fruit growing, are just some of the great achievements of the Institute in the past seven decades" said Dr. Lukić. Director pointed out that science has no borders, and should not be closed, but without involvement in international currents become obsolete and disappear. Therefore, today the Institute pays special attention to the development of science through national and international projects, but also through all other forms of cooperation with institutions, individuals and legal entities in Serbia and abroad.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić has awarded the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak with the Sretenje order of the third degree.

"License Protection of fruit varieties is extremely important segment for our country. Not only because our exchange on the international market doctrines, becoming more visible, but also the recognition of Serbian varieties become a major brand of our country in the world" said Nikolić.

The President added that the pride of all citizens of Serbia should be plum varieties 'Čačanska rodna', 'Čačanska lepotica', 'Valjevka' and 'Pozna plava'. "In Germany, which is famous for the best arranged, a leading member of the European Union, plums 'Čačanska rodna' and 'Čačanska lepotica' are represented as much as 60 percent in the overall offer of plum on the territory of that country, while the cultivar 'Čačanska najbolja' is used by German scientists as one of the parent to create new varieties" said Nikolić.

"We are proud that the Institute successfully developed the commercial part. The institute implemented the certification system in the production of planting material, creating nuclear, pre-basic and basic planting material according to the certification schemes, which is a commercial product of the Institute" concluded Nikolić.

At the ceremony, a number of institutions and individuals who contributed to the development of scientific research of the institute were awarded with plaques and certificates.

Solemn academy was complemented with the performance of the Teofilović twins, Cultural-artistic-society "Abrašević" and Stefan Filipović, a student of the music school "Dr. Vojislav Vučković".

Doctors, researchers and government institutions together are trying to find solutions and adopt a strategy for the future. In this context, the French Embassy and the French Institute decided to award several scholarships - short stay for Serbian researchers who want to stay in research laboratories in France during the period from 15 August 2016 to 31 December 2016.

The duration of stay in France is 2 to 4 weeks. Stay can not be transferred to 2017.

The scholarship covers the cost of living, housing and insurance.

The winner of the fifth Festival of the best Serbian plum brandies which was held on 20 May 2016 at Fruit Research Institute in Cacak is the brandy of company "Primag" from Zemun.

Forty one plum brandies were competing for the title of the best Serbian plum brandy for 2015. Plum brandy (prepečenica) from "PRIMAG" scored 19.41 points, the highest of more than 200 samples that were evaluating during the past five years.
Second and third prize won plum brandies of Stanimir Minic from Donja Trepca near Cacak, that scored 19.35 and 19.23 points. The fourth was Jelena Vićentijević from Brđani with 19.09 points, fifth Milorad Sekulić from Gunjaci near Osečina with 18.96 points. Goran Mijailovic from Čumićevo near Topola won 18.88 points and the company 'Tok' from Goč with the same score, Dradi Ivanović from Blace won 18.71, Ljubisa Vidulović from Boljevac 18.65 and Jovan Pešović from Baljevac 18.59 points.

Fifth Festival of the best Serbian plum brandy will be held on 20th May 2016. Forty-one plum brandies will be competing for the title of the best Serbian plum brandy for 2015.

This event is sponsored by the town of Čačak and held traditionally at Fruit Research Institute, Čačak since 2012. Best plum brandies from regional competitions held over the previous year in Serbia and Republika Srpska were evaluating at the Festival.

The evaluation will be performed by the expert commission composed of top experts of national alcoholic beverage. President of the commission is Prof. Dr. Ninoslav Nikićević. Members are prof. Dr. Vele Tešović, prof. Dr. Svetomir Milojević, Dr. Branko Popović, Mr. Miloljub Gojković, Mr. Veroljub Urošević, Mr. Velimir Mitrović, Mr. Miloš Petrić and Dr. Ivan Urošević. Secretary is Mr. Ljubiša Stanković, and the Technical Secretaries are Dr. Olga Mitrovic and Mrs. Mirjana Pajić.

Topic of the TRAFOON project is networking in the field of traditional food production in order to improve knowledge transfer and to foster innovation.
The basic concept of the project and activities to implement it will be presented by colleagues from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade, followed by a presentation of the experts in the field of production and processing of plums, food packaging, food safety, entrepreneurship, marketing and intellectual property protection.

With her we laugh, cry, rejoice, grieve, eat and often begin the day. An indispensable guest on each Serbian celebration manufactured in cauldrons of old masters, šljivovica is a plum brandy with which Serbia toast. Strong alcoholic beverage of specific taste, served in special small glasses – “čokanjčići”. From the country that is known for producing the best plum brandy, you cannot leave without tasting at least one.“

Fourth Festival of the best Serbian plum brandy was held on 8 June 2015. Forty-eight plum brandies were competing for the title of the best Serbian plum brandy for 2014.


Plum brandy from the company „Tok d.o.o.“ from Belgrade won (score 19,23). Second place took plum brandy of producer Mr. Milan Plazinić from village Premeća (score 19,01) and the third was plum brandy produced by Mrs. Jelena Vićentijević from village Brđani (score 18,88).

This event was sponsored by the town of Čačak and held traditionally at Fruit Research Institute, Čačak since 2012.

All samples were coded and the winner is known only after the opening of the envelopes. Evaluation of one sample usually lasts 2 to 3 minutes, and the commission members have no right to deal.

Commission for registration of cultivars and rootstock of stone fruits, at its meeting held on December 29, 2014, made a decision for releasing three new sour cherry cultivars bred at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak.

Sour cherry hybrids  III/23, III/31 and XII/57 were recognized as new cultivars named  'Nevena', 'Iskra' and 'Sofija' (Decree of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection no. 320-04-00567/2011-11, 320-04-00568/2011-11 and 320-04-00566/2011-11 of 19 January 2015).

On the occasion of 20 years of work, Andrejevic Foundation granted a charter to the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak in gratitude for cooperation in the realization of its founding objectives and contribution to the development of scientific creativity. Researchers Dr. Rade Miletić and Dr. Sladjana Marić also received the charter from the foundation.

Fruit Research Institute is one of the founders of the Foundation Andrejević since its founding in 1994.

Commission for registration of cultivars and rootstoks of pome fruits, at its meetings held in 2014, made a decision on releasing two new  pear cultivars bred at the Fruit Research Institute, Čačak.

Pear hybrids I/9 and VI/30 were recognized as new cultivars named 'Andjelija' and 'Juliana' (Decree of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection no. 320-04-01834/2006-08 dated 14 April and 320-04-01835/2006-08 of 22 August 2014).

Plum cultivars 'Boranka', 'Krina', 'Mildora', 'Nada', 'Pozna plava', 'Timočanka' and 'Zlatka' are protected and registered in the register of protected plant cultivars according to the Decision on allocation of rights of plant breeders from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia.

Fruit Research Institute, Čačak is granted the breeder's rights of the plums 'Pozna plava' and 'Zlatka' to year 2042; plum 'Nada' to year 2043, and for plums 'Boranka', 'Krina', 'Mildora', 'Pozna plava' and 'Timočanka' to year 2044.
